This year’s repertoire combines masterpieces by renowned classical composers with beloved Indonesian patriotic and traditional songs, creating a unique musical experience that can be enjoyed by audiences of all backgrounds.

Remaining true to the spirit of inclusivity that has defined the Monas Grand Concert since its inception, the event is completely free of charge, requires no registration, and is open to the public. Visitors simply need to come and enjoy a world-class classical music performance in one of Indonesia’s most iconic public spaces.

Following the successful editions held in 2019, 2022, and 2023, the Monas Grand Concert 2026 will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. (WIB) at the National Monument (Monas), Jakarta. It continues its legacy as Indonesia’s largest open-air classical music concert.

A press conference announcing the event was held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Aula Simfonia Jakarta, attended by Wijaya Subekti, Eunice Tong, and Timotius, with Novita Tandry serving as moderator. During the conference, the organizers highlighted that this year’s performance will also feature popular Indonesian classics, including the timeless song “Bengawan Solo.”

From the World’s Greatest Concert Halls Back to Indonesia

The 2026 concert follows the international success of the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra and the Jakarta Oratorio Society through their Grand Concert Tour: The Symphonic Voyage from Indonesia in 2025.

During the tour, Indonesian musicians performed at some of the world’s most prestigious concert venues, including Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall in Japan, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, Carnegie Hall in New York City, Marian Anderson Hall in Philadelphia, and The Music Center at Strathmore in Washington, D.C.

From Carnegie Hall to Monas, JSO and JOS have demonstrated that Indonesian musicians are capable of performing on the world’s greatest stages. Now, they are bringing that same international-quality musical experience back home to the Indonesian people—free of charge.

The concert is presented under the artistic leadership of Stephen Tong, founder and conductor of Aula Simfonia Jakarta, the Jakarta Simfonia Orchestra, and the Jakarta Oratorio Society.

Speaking to the media, Wijaya Subekti said:

«”You have witnessed how classical music has touched audiences around the world, from Tokyo to New York. Now it is time to share that same spirit with the people of Indonesia, on an open stage that belongs to all of us at the foot of the National Monument.”»

Meanwhile, Timotius emphasized that classical music should never be viewed as entertainment exclusively for the upper class.

«”One important point is that classical music is not only for the elite. That misconception is exactly why we bring classical music into an open public space. This is a breakthrough for Indonesia—a country rich not only in natural resources but also in extraordinary musical talent. As one of the world’s great metropolitan cities, Jakarta deserves to enjoy world-class open-air classical performances. For us, Monas is the perfect and secure venue for hosting the Monas Grand Concert 2026. Let us all take pride in classical music in Indonesia.”»

Growing Public Enthusiasm

Since its debut in 2019 as Indonesia’s first open-air classical music concert, public enthusiasm has continued to grow. The subsequent editions in 2022 and 2023 further strengthened the event’s reputation.

To date, the three previous editions of the Monas Grand Concert have attracted more than 80,000 attendees and featured over 200 musicians and singers from various regions across Indonesia.

A Family-Friendly Celebration for Everyone

Monas was chosen as the venue because it symbolizes Indonesia’s unity and national identity while serving as a public space shared by all citizens.

The Monas Grand Concert 2026 is designed as a family-friendly event that welcomes audiences of all ages. Approximately 7,000 seats will be available throughout designated areas of the Monas complex.

By presenting an international-quality classical music performance in a free and accessible public setting, the Monas Grand Concert 2026 once again demonstrates that world-class arts and culture can be enjoyed by every member of society.
